Path of Idle equipment sets: what fits together and what it costs
There are 18 equipment sets, three for each job, and every one is exactly five pieces: the weapon plus four of the six other slots. A hero has seven slots, so a 4 piece bonus and a 2 piece bonus can always be worn together, and that combination still leaves one slot free for a legendary.
That is the shape of almost every finished build in this game.
Every set bonus names a skill
Set bonuses are not generic stat blocks. Each one modifies a specific skill, which is why a set effectively defines the build rather than supporting it.
Uruk’s Devotion for the Priest is a clear example. Two pieces give all allies a shield equal to 200% Dexterity whenever you place a Totem. Four pieces increase your Buff Effect and Buff Duration by 30% for each active Totem. Without the set, totems are a buff. With it, they are the reason the party survives.
Judgment of Cyrus for the Cleric works the other way around. Two pieces make Sword of Divine Punishment consume 8% of current health and always critically strike. Four pieces increase its cooldown speed by 25% for each Aura you have. The 4 piece bonus is worthless on a Cleric with no auras, which is the kind of dependency worth checking before you commit to a set.
The three sets per job
| Job | Sets | Slots each uses |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Bardo’s Dominion, Kahn’s Fate, Grim’s Wrath | weapon plus four of amulet, ring, helmet, torso, gloves, boots |
| Hunter | Keryll’s Concealment, Wulfgar’s Ferocity, Doron’s Shadow Hunt | as above |
| Mage | Kaelos’s Verdict, Isar’s Storm, Azra’s Blaze | as above |
| Cleric | Blessing of Mortan, Judgment of Cyrus, Devotion of Faelen | as above |
| Mercenary | Yasuo’s Gale, Elaine’s Command, Cassius’s Wicked Deed | as above |
| Priest | Mara’s Ritual, Uruk’s Devotion, Vero’s Secret | as above |
Every set includes the weapon. Since a hero has one weapon, at most one of your two sets can use its weapon slot, and the other has to make up its pieces from armour and jewellery.
That constraint never actually blocks you. Checking all 36 possible pairings inside a job, every 4 piece plus 2 piece combination fits in seven slots. So the question is never whether two sets can coexist, only which bonuses you want.
Which pairing to run
Pick the 4 piece from the set that modifies your main damage skill, and the 2 piece from whichever of the other two gives you something your build lacks.
For a Priest, Uruk’s Devotion at four pieces plus Mara’s Ritual at two pieces gives the totem shield engine plus a 30% cooldown reduction and 50% damage increase on Bone Chill. For a Mercenary, Elaine’s Command gives Ballista Sentry 50% increased attack speed and one extra penetration at two pieces, then 100% increased damage against weakened targets at four.
The official builds each name one set, and they leave the other slots to legendaries rather than a second set. Adding a 2 piece from a second set is the standard first step once you have finished the listed build. The official builds guide covers when to leave the recommendation.
What a set actually costs
Set pieces come from Set Chests. A Set Chest always gives one Set quality item, and equipment for your current job is favoured, but nothing guarantees a particular set or a particular piece. With three sets per job at five pieces each, that is fifteen possible outcomes for your job before rarity even enters into it.
Set Chests come from three places worth knowing:
- Chests themselves. A Rare Chest produces a Set item 2.30% of the time, a Fine Chest 0.55%, and a Common Chest 0.10%. The farming guide has the full odds table.
- The Sanctum tower’s Throne Halls, which drop Set Chests on top of everything else. See the tower guide.
- Outlands boss sites and all three Doom stages, covered in the Outlands and Doom guides.
Because the tower and Outlands both repeat, they are the reliable sources once you reach them. Before that, Rare Chests are more than twenty times better per chest than Common ones for this specific purpose.
Practical notes
Keep set pieces for jobs you have not recruited yet. Fifteen outcomes per job means a piece you cannot use today is a piece you do not have to find later.
Do not chase the 4 piece on two sets at once. Two 4 piece bonuses would need eight slots and you have seven.
Check the 2 piece before the 4 piece. Several 2 piece bonuses, like Elaine’s Command giving Ballista Sentry +1 penetration, are large on their own and arrive two pieces sooner.
